Redefining School in the Age of Web 2.0: Update

Well, it’s been a few days since I began this process of explaining an idea of how a higher ed learning environment might look if it allowed itself to be influenced by the latest in technological hardware and facilitatory web tools (Web 2.0). I have been somewhat stuck, not that I don’t have my ideas sketched out in a comp book, complete with mind maps and diagrams galore . . . but I have been struggling to organize them into smaller bits that will translate nicely to the blog environment.

I may have built too big a picture for myself and now after the research and the attempt to organize the ideas I have left myself something that needs to be carved up and can’t seem to pull that off . . .

My character, Andrew, has a backpack that contains the following items as he heads off to classes each day: iPod Touch, cell phone, Kindle or Sony bookreader, laptop. I think I am going to organize the ideas around his backpack, so the next post will deal with the iPod, podcasts, and webcasts.

One Response to Redefining School in the Age of Web 2.0: Update

Hello. My university has been exploring the new Web 2.0 “classroom” based on a platform of converged mobile media devices like the iPhone. It sounds like we have a lot in common with what you’re exploring and thinking about. We have a website up at that features some background discussions and a 15-minute film portraying one possible vision of what the 21st-century academy might look like. We’d love to hear your perspectives…
